She never intended to be a writer.

NOT Carla Cassidy always wanted to be a dancer. Her dancing lead her to a summer of teaching for the National Pom Pon league and to performing at football games as a Kansas City Chiefs cheerleader.

But, she had bigger dreams. She wanted to be a dancer on Broadway. After years of dance lessons and having performed in local theater productions for several years, she packed up her bags and moved from her Midwest town to New York City. There Carla learned a difficult life lesson: she was too short. At 5’2’’ she was like a munchkin in the land of the Amazons.

Instead of Broadway, Carla landed a job as a singer/dancer in a show band that toured the East coast. After a year of working in the band she met the man who would become her husband.

Frank was a traditional New York Italian…okay, he was a male chauvinist. They married and Carla brought him back to the Midwest for them to begin their life together. Frank didn’t want Carla to work, which was fine with her because she hated getting up early and putting on real clothes.

It was during the first years of their marriage that Carla rediscovered her love of reading. She’d always been a reader but now had more time to immerse herself in the stories that authors told. It wasn’t long before she decided to try her hand at writing.

Her first book, a young adult romance, was published in 1988. She went on to write eleven more young adult novels then in 1991 sold to Silhouette Romance. To date, she has written over eighty books for Silhouette and Harlequin.

In 2004 Carla sold to Signet Eclipse. The romantic suspense, Promise Him Anything was a July, 2004 release. She continues to write for Silhouette and NAL. Her books have won a number of awards and she still hates getting up too early and putting on real clothes.
